1960s, New York City. J. Pierrepont Finch will do anything to rise to the top of the World Wide Wickets, and, thanks to a trusty manual, he goes from the mailroom to vice president of advertising in not time at all. His jealous rival, Bud Frump--nephew of J.B. Biggley, the president of the company--works hard to see that he fails, but Finch always winds up smelling like a rose--and along the way he finds an understanding woman, a secretary named Rosemary.
